Animal (invertebrate) wrangling for film and TV
The director looks at the script. The spider, it reads, walks into the centre of frame and looks at the camera. It turns around and pounces on a passing cockroach. In the next shot, it drops down from above on a silk line, landing perfectly on its mark. How do you make this happen? You call Minibeast Wildlife.
Minibeast Wildlife provides insects, spiders, scorpions, molluscs and other invertebrates to filmmakers alongside our specialised wrangling services and expert information. Whether you need naturalistic behaviour for wildlife documentaries or you have a dire need for a beetle to crawl across your advertising, these are your guys. Also I am on the team so how great is that?
My wrangling work
Tiny World: Australia episode
2020
Peacock jumping spiders dancing on gumnuts and snails … just another day in the office!
Toyota Plate Clearance
2018
A woman decides that rather than deal with the large Huntsman spider in her car, she’ll just get a new one. Rational? Perhaps not, but getting a Huntsman to turn around and mug the camera on cue? That’s spider professionalism at its finest.
G-Shock x Sneaker Freaker ‘Redback’
2018
This watch doesn’t come with live Redbacks but the advertisement might convince you it does. Our Redback actors had to walk through the shot on a moving set and hit the right mark at the right moment to be in focus. If there was an Academy Award for bugs, these girls have my vote.
